Day 6

The whole family decided we had to get out of the house today. We started out by going to visit Grandpa and Uncle Ryan and see where Dad works at One Hour. Grandpa was very relieved that everyone thought Colton was as cute as our family had decided he was. Afterwards, we ventured to Babies R Us to pick up a few things and then enjoyed a nice lunch out with Aunt Genna.

At night, Colton experienced another first...his first bath! He did not seem to enjoy the whole bathing process, screaming his way through the entire thing, but did enjoy getting dried off and cuddling in his super-soft towels (I swear they are nicer than Josh and mine!). He, of course, managed to pose for another adorable picture post-bath.

Day 5

Colton spent his day at home getting used to his surroundings and sleeping through most of the day. He continued to be surrounded by constant visitors, including finally meeting his Uncle Jordan. In his freetime, he began to spend some real quality time with his mom, dad, and Chipper. By the end of just a few days, it was obvious the two brothers were going to be just fine.

Day 4

Colton's first full day at home started off with a trip to see his doctor to check his weight. He has lost some more weight since leaving the hosptial, but the doctor was not alarmed. She does want to see him again next week, though. After his outing, we returned home to get used to our routine and figure out this whole parenthood thing.

Tonight Colton celebrated his first Passover! We ventured over to grandma and grandpa's house (not their official names, as they have not chosen what they want to be called yet) for the seder. Colton, once again, stole the show and it was a wonderful first Passover with the promise of many more to come.

Day 3

YAY! We finally get to leave the hospital today. At about 11AM, Colton and Michelle both got their official discharge papers. From there, we began our journey downstairs to the car and to make sure Josh had properly prepped the car seat for installation. Phew...another test we passed; maybe we are actually getting this parenthood thing under control!

After a very careful drive home, we arrived for the ultimate test we had been dreading/anticipating/talking about for the past 9 months...it was time for Chipper to meet Colton! With leash tightly gripped, Chipper was introduced to his little brother. After a few panic-stricken moments, Chipper finally settled into his routine of sniffing, kissing, and generally staring at Colton, while Colton slept through the whole thing.

While it was a shaky start, we are confident that the two boys will grow up to be best buddies and that we are very lucky to have our family of four.

Day 2

Colton, Josh, and Michelle all woke up together after a long night in the hospital...Josh particularly loved the fantastic recliner they provided for him! We quickly settled into the day, though, and continuously marvelled at the fact that our little boy was officially one day old!

Colton was again greeted by many visitors, and then just as he was starting to settle into life, mom and dad interupted it horribly with his circumcision. He came through like a champ, though, and eventually everyone settled into life at the hospital for hopefully the last night!

Day 1

We found out on Wednesday, March 24th that Colton would be born via c-section on Friday. Needless to say, the next 36 hours passed in a daze as we prepared mentally and literally to be parents. Josh and I woke up early Friday morning to a rainy, nasty day, but prepared to meet our son in just a few hours. We loaded Chipper into the car to make his journey to his grandparents house and off we went.
After a 35 minute journey (it usually only takes 15, but Josh was so distracted he took a few wrong turns) and having dropped Chipper off, we arrived at the hospital, scared to death! After 2 hours of IVs and monitoring, I was taken back at 9:30 to begin the C-section. Josh joined me a little while later and at 10:19 AM, our precious Colton Hoyte Hobbs entered the world. Josh got to watch as Dr. Lackore brought him into the world and then even got to go back as they weighed him (7 pounds, 12 ounces) and measured him (20 inches) and pronounced him "perfect" (their words, not ours, but we do wholeheartedly agree!).

Colton spent the rest of his day meeting lots of family: both his grandmas and grandpas, his Aunt Genna, Uncle Ryan, and Aunt KC, and of course catching up on his sleep. The highlight of the day was when Josh attempted to change his first diaper only to have Colton pee on him during his attempt:)

Overall, it was an excellent first day and we all feel so blessed to have Colton with us, FINALLY!
